Gulmohar

Description

Royal Poinciana, Delonix regia, also known as the Flamboyant Tree or Gulmohar is a species of flowering plant in the bean family Fabaceae, subfamily Caesalpinioideae native to Madagascar. It is famous for its striking red and orange blossoms, which bloom in tropical and subtropical regions. The flower has four bright red or orange petals, with a fifth petal that is slightly different in color, often with yellow and red markings. It is commonly found in warm climates, including Brazil, where it is widely cultivated for its beauty and shade. Although its country of origin was unknown, it had been in widespread cultivation for centuries. Finally, in 1932, a natural colony was discovered on the west coast of Madagascar by J. Leandri. Vibrant orange flowers bloom against a background of deep green leaves, showcasing a lively contrast in colors. The petals have a delicate, intricate shape, resembling flames reaching for the sky.
