Olympic Cauldron
Description
After the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics, the Olympic Flame was carried, by a teenager, to a pyre located in Largo da Candelária. The Olympic flame was carried from the Maracanã Stadium to the square in a lamp. The pyre, which was nicknamed "Pira do Povo" because it was the first to be located outside an Olympic Stadium and closest to the public, is located inside a fountain whose base is filled with water. The pyre, which moves with the wind, was the creation of North American artist Anthony Howe, known for his kinetic sculptures full of visual effects produced through the movements of his work.
