Teatro Popular de Niteroi

Description

The Teatro Popular Oscar Niemeyer is a theater located in the center of Niterói, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was inaugurated on April 5, 2007. The Teatro Popular is one of the works that make up the Caminho Niemeyer, a cultural and tourist complex in the city designed by Oscar Niemeyer on the waterfront between the south zone and the city center. Access to the theater is via a helical ramp, where you reach the upper foyer, and from there to the audience area, which can accommodate 454 people and an outdoor space with a maximum audience capacity of 20,000 seats. Its sinuous layout and reinforced concrete structure are characteristics of its creator. From a facade finished with ceramic tiles with designs, on the opposite side of the building, a glass wall allows the public to see Guanabara Bay from inside the theater, ramp and spiral stairs, frequent elements in Niemeyer's works.
